YONKERS’ OLDEST PHARMACY: Joseph Jacobson emigrated from Russia to New York in 1892, where he studied chemistry privately and got his license in 1899. He immediately moved to Yonkers and opened his pharmacy.
A YONKERS LANDMARK: His brother Robert opened his own pharmacy, at 453 Nepperhan Avenue, across from the carpet mill and near Ashburton Avenue.
By the 1920s the pharmacy had moved to nearby 231 Ashburton Avenue, at the corner of Nepperhan Avenue, where it has remained in business to this day.
